Doctor Chester Bird Thrift, son of Burr Atwell and Ethel Lucille (Bird) Thrift, was born February 9, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the Army Medical Corps January 10, 1941. He served in the Medical Detachment, 35th Infantry Division Artillery, and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France on July 7, 1944. He was relieved of assignment and transferred to the 194th General Hospital on January 7, 1945 at the rank of Major. By the time of his discharge, December 25, 1945, he had been promoted to the rank of Lt Colonel. Dr. Chester Bird Thrift died January 18, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois. He is buried at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.
