Huizinga Dutch Tulip
HUIZINGA

Geert 'George' Pieter Huizinga was born on January 19, 1863 in Woldendorf, Nieuwolda District, Groningen Province, Netherlands. He was the son of Pieter Huizinga and Martje Steihel. He was united in marriage to Elsien Woltjer Woltjer on November 23, 1883 in Midwolda District a few miles southeast of Woldendorf. Elsien, the daughter of Derk Woltjer and Kornelia Generaal, was born on February 13, 1861 in Oostwold, Midwolda District. George and Elsie had at least five children: Derk (1884), Pieter (1885), Kornelia (1888), Marks (1890) and Martje (1893). The family lived in Oostwold until they immigrated to the U.S.A. around 1894. At first they settled on a farm near Renville, Minnesota. Later they moved to a farm a few miles north, near the town of Roseland, Minnesota. Elsie died there on December 29, 1940 and was buried at Roseland Cemetery. George died nine days later on January 9, 1941. Both were buried at Roseland Cemetery.
