Subject: Report of Activities prior to D-day
To: Headquarters Military Intelligence Service, European Theater of Operations,
APO 887, U S Army
1. This team was formed at Camp Ritchie, MD in March 1944, left the U.S. on 7 April 1944 and reported at FID ETOUSA (Broadway, England) about 17 April 1944. Early in May 44 the team reported for duty with HQ 35th Infantry Division at Tavistock, England, where it remained until departure for France on 4 July 44.
2. Activities during this period consisted of the following types of training:
a. Acquiring proficiency in the use of the team's equipment.
b. Physical conditioning by marches and athletic games.
c. One man was sent to attend the Order of Battle School and another the Documents School at London.
3. Additional activities included:
a. Testing the proficiency of men of all units of the division in speaking, reading and writing French and German.
b. Lectures to the officers of the 110 Medical Battalion on the value of and the procedure for interrogation of Prisoners of War (PW), and the possible future relationship of the IPW Team and the division's medical service in regard to wounded prisoners.
c. The presentation of a playlet demonstrating interrogation of PW for the instruction of units of the division was prepared but not used because of lack of time.
