If anyone is aware of any living members of the 60th Engineers Combat Batallion, please contact me. My grandfather was the Commanding Officer (Maj Edwin Pumroy) who led the Batallion's infil into France, later killed in battle. I'm a Major in the US Air Force and hope to have opportunity to speak with veteran who served with him, though I know it's unlikely at this point.

Joseph Callahan, Great Nephew of Dale M Pence ( I Company).

My Great Uncle made it thru the war after losing a leg and became a High school teacher at Huntington High. During a baseball game at the school in the early 1950's my uncle, Gene Callahan (future US Army) a senior at the time, made a wide crazy swing at a pitch and knocked out my Great Uncles Dale teeth out.

That was the last time that they saw eachother until almost 54 years later at my parents 50th wedding anniversery in 2007. I'll be honest Gene was really surprised that Dale was there and didnt relalize that there was a family connection, he was in the Army during the wedding and wasnt familuar with my mothers side of the family.

While Gene was in shock over their meeting, Dale had a good laugh over it. I missed the exact conversation they had but I can imagine Dale telling Gene that he had been thru much worse.

Dale married my Great Aunt after the war and they remain married to this day. He also stayed with teaching until he retired.

He never talked about the war with me that I remember, I only knew that he had lost a leg shortly around Normandy until I found this website. I'm sure he talked about it with my Father and Grandfather Labar.

If anyone has any questions or comments, please contact me I can relay them to Dale.

:-) I am Harley Solt's daughter-in-law, Jack Solt's wife. Since Harley really did not talk about his war experiencesI find this fascinating. Much credit also goes to his wife Elizabeth, hmmm I wonderhow much she knew about.

This was a great read. My dad, Walter J. Hoffman was in the 320th with Cannon Company. He told me dozens of stories when I was growing up about St. Lo, the rescue at Bastogne, etc.

He was given the purple heart with 2 additional oakleaf clusters (I think that means 3 injuries), the bronze star and additional honors from the 3rd Army and France. He wanted to keep fighting, but was sent home after he was wounded too often. We all miss him and are proud he served with the 320th.

I'd love to get updates if and when you get them and would be happy to contribute his memories and stories as best as I can.

My father Joseph E Foor was in Company G, 134th Inf Div. He passed away in 2010. He related to me his experiences during WWII and I am grateful to him and all those men who fought so that we could live free. Anyone who was in Company G please email me.
