60th Engr.Bn. was a familiar address to me during my junior high and high school years when I corresponded with my favorite brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Philip Botchin because he married my sister, Lt. Viola Zahl who served with the 120th Evac. Hospital unit in Europe. I was always so proud of them and I miss them yet.

Dear all,

I came across your website while searching for more information on Major Leslie Yager jr. I recently acquired his duffle bag and the previous owner bought it in the USA at a sale on ebay. My intention is to trace back the story of these brave men who fought here. I found out through the web that Yager served with the 134th and was a captain of K company in 1941

I have also found his name in the book on this website.

Let me know if there is more info.
Thank you

I came upon this website while searching for information about the 60th Combat
Engineers. My brother-in-law, Philip Botchin, served with the battalion from its
beginnings in CA until it was disbanded (or whatever the correct military term is)
He met my sister, Viola, who was serving as his nurse at Camp Cooke, CA after he was injured in a jeep accident! Both were 2nd Lts. at the time. They
were married before the 60th shipped out for Europe. Viola was stationed in
England, then late in the war her unit, the 120th Evacuation unit, was moved
to France to care for the wounded which included refugees and survivors of
Buchenwald. The history of the 60th is covered here. Philip eventually became
the C/O of the battalion and served it to the close of the war. He returned to
civilian life until 1950 when he was called back to serve during the Korean
conflict (it was a war of course, not merely a conflict). He made the Engineers his lifetime career and passed away in 1999. Viola followed in 2005. I love
them both and have and will always be proud of their service to this country.

My uncle, Corporal Virgil Quigley, was assigned to the 135 Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Divison. He was killed in action 11/14/44, possibly near the town of Morhange. He is buried in the Lorraine Cemetary in St. Avold, France. We have little information on him and would welcome any information on his service or how he died. Thank God for his service and that of "The Greatest Generation." We live in freedom today because of their sacrifice.

Our Pastor told this story this morning during his sermon. It was such an inspiring story that I had to read more. I am so glad you posted the biographies of these heroic men. Pastor had said that the Jews during the time of Herod when Herod had all the boys two and under murdered should have had these great men to save them.

Just checking on history of my Uncle Orrel V. Brewer of the Anti-Tank Company, and actions which they were engaged in. I have the Regimental book and other great information, but am wondering what other info is availabled.
