Burials at Grand-Failly Temporary American Military Cemetery 1944 - 1948

Identification of American Soldiers Buried in Temporary Cemetery of Grand-Failly, France 1944-1948 - by Donna M. Knechtel Paszek, Cheswick, Pennsylvania

Located 53 miles south of Bastogne, this cemetery was opened on December 20, 1944, just 4 days after the beginning of the Bulge offensive. In 1948, the decision was made to relocate the fallen, and they were interred in private and national cemeteries in the United States and in military cemeteries in Europe. July 11, 1948 was the last tribute before exhumation of the bodies. The cemetery in Grand-Failly no longer exists. This book includes the name, rank, serial number, state of enlistment, date of death, and current cemetery (if known).

Weekly burial reports are from the National Archives and Records Administration. Daily burial lists are from the Nebraska State Historical Society's Butler B. Miltonberger collection.

Special thanks to Donna M. Knechtel Paszek for permission to post her book about Grand-Failly.
