William Wallace McDole, son of Rufus Marlin and Edna Jewell (Bentle) McDole, was born June 22, 1925 in Macon County, Tennessee. He registered for the draft on his 18th birthday, June 22, 1943, when he was living in Westmoreland, Tennessee and working on his father's farm. He was inducted into the Army October 5, 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia and joined Company C, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion August 28, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Courtenay, France. Pvt William W McDole was wounded in action September 13, 1944 by fragments from a shell blast about 15 miles south of Nancy, France in the vicinity of the Moselle River. He died of his wounds September 15, 1944 and is buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Tennessee.
