Francis Joseph Laibe, son of Leo Mark and Cecil Lenore (Alkire) Laibe, was born March 5, 1923 at Putnam, Ohio. He registered for the draft June 27, 1942. At the time he was a farmer living in Ottawa, Ohio. He was inducted into the Army January 14, 1943 at Toledo, Ohio. He served as a Platoon Sergeant, Company D, 320th Infantry Regiment, landed at Omaha Beach July 6, 1944 and was promoted to Technical Sergeant October 5, 1944. T/Sgt Francis J Laibe was killed in action November 9, 1944 in the vicinity of Grening, France. He is buried at Benton Ridge Cemetery, Benton Ridge, Ohio
