Fred William Jokimaki, son of Arthur and Fannie (Nikkila) Jokimaki, was born June 15, 1920 in Automba Township, Carlton County, Minnesota. He registered for the draft July 1, 1941 and was inducted into the Army March 1, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served in Company F, 320th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 6, 1944. S/Sgt Fred W Jokimaki was wounded by artillery shell fragments in the vicinity of St Lo, France July 15, 1944 and died of his wounds that same day. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville sur Mer, France.
