James William Hayes Jr, son of James William Sr and Elizabeth (Devereaux) Hayes, was born March 24, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and enlisted in the Army January 28, 1943. He served in Company C, 320th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 6, 1944. Pfc James W Hayes was killed by a shell blast July 12, 1944 in the vicinity of Saint-Gilles, just west of St Lo, France. He is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan.
