Paul Leslie Haviland, son of Roy Paul and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Haviland, was born in Clarksburg, New Jersey. His draft registration lists his birth date as July 12, 1925 however his headstone shows July 13, 1925. He registered for the draft July 12, 1943 when he was 18 years old and working at Hightstown Rug Company in Hightstown New Jersey and was inducted into the Army November 26, 1943 at Camden, New Jersey. He joined Company G, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion September 22, 1944 when the unit was at Arracourt, France and was promoted to Private First Class December 1, 1944. Pfc Paul L Haviland was killed in action by a shell blast December 6, 1944 in the vicinity of Zetting, France. He is buried at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township, New Jersey.
