137th Infantry Regiment - Company I

Raymond Bert Thornton, son of William Bert and Carrie Ellen (Anderson) Thornton was born February 15, 1918. He was a member of Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. S/Sgt Raymond B. Thornton was killed in action on Friday, July 14, 1944. Family legend has it that he was killed by a sniper in the battle for St. Lo, France. He is buried at Highland Cemetery in his hometown of Winfield, Kansas.
