Andrew James "Drew" Scalf, son of William James and Vesta Mae (Aston) Scalf, was born April 7, 1921 in Washington County, Tennessee. He was married to Delta Ruth Jones and the couple had a daughter, Brenda. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942 and was inducted into the Army October 8, 1942 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee. He joined Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 26th Infantry Division on December 16, 1944. He transferred to Company E, 137th Infantry December 25, 1944, was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge January 1, and promoted to Private First Class February 11, 1945. Pfc Andrew J Scalf was killed in action February 27, 1945 in the vicinity of Gerderath, Germany. He is memorialized at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, Washington County, Tennessee and buried at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
