137th Infantry Regiment - Company B

Alfred Arthur Riddle, son of Alfred Augustus and Etta Lutheria (Woods) Riddle, was born November 11, 1921 in Lyon County Kansas. He married Jean Audry Colon in July 1941 and the couple had one child, a daughter Lynda Jean. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard, inducted December 23, 1940 at Emporia, Kansas when the 137th Infantry Regiment was ordered into Federal service. He served in Company B and was promoted to Private First Class July 1, 1944 while the unit was in Newquay in Cornwall, England. He departed from Cornwall July 4 and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 7, 1944. He was awarded a Combat Infantryman Badge August 1 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant August 10, 1944. He was reported missing in the vicinity of Mortain, France and was later confirmed killed in action August 12, 1944. S/Sgt Alfred A Riddle is buried at Saint-James American Cemetery, Saint-James, France.
