James Lee Miller, son of Vern Lee and Oma (Garrison) Miller, was born May 9, 1921 in Eldorado, Illinois. He married Eva Lorene Widick June 20, 1940 and the couple had 2 children, a daughter Joyce Ann and a son Richard Lee. He registered for the draft July 1, 1941 while working as a truck driver in Eldorado and was inducted into the Army June 21, 1944. He joined Company L, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 14th Replacement Battalion December 21, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Neunkirch, France and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge January 1, 1945. Pvt James L Miller was killed in action January 2, 1945 in the vicinity of Livarchamps, south of Bastogne, Belgium. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg and memorialized at Wolf Creek Cemetery, Eldorado, Illinois.
