John Matraszek, Jr

John Matraszek, Jr, son of John (Jan) and Boleslawa Matraszek, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 2, 1917. He registered for the draft on October 16, 1940. At that time he was a student at Temple University. His draft record lists him as 6'4" tall, weighing 180 pounds, with blue eyes, blonde hair, and a light complexion. He was inducted into the Army on June 15, 1942 at Philadelphia.

2nd Lt John Matraszek,Jr was 1st Platoon Leader, Company G, 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. He was wounded in action July 17, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France and died of his wounds that same day. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
