Joseph John Lach was born March 10, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois. He registered for the draft March 10, 1943 and was inducted into the Army June 17, 1943. He joined Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Light Machine Gunner from the 38th Replacement Battalion September 18, 1944 while the unit was in the vicinity of Nancy, France. Pvt Joseph J Lach was killed in action September 23, 1944 by shell blast fragments in the vicinity of the Foret de Champanoux, France. He is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois.
