S/Sgt Frank Holmes

137th Infantry Regiment, Company M
Frank Holmes, son of Charles Eugene and Marjorie (Gullett) Holmes, was born
April 17, 1913 in Ransom, Kansas. He registered for the draft October 16,
1940. At that time he was living in Utica, Kansas. He was a Squad Leader in
Company M, 137th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy
France July 7, 1944. He was wounded July 31, 1944 in the vicinity of Conde
sur Vire, France, was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 2, 1944,
and returned to duty September 26, 1944 when the unit was at Gremecey,
France. He was awarded the Purple Heart November 23, 1944 and promoted to
Staff Sergeant December 3, 1944. S/Sgt Frank Holmes was killed in action
December 31, 1944 in the vicinity of Livarchamps, Belgium. He is buried at
Ransom Cemetery, Ransom, Kansas.
