Pvt Victor D Hoffman

137th Infantry Regiment, Company C
Victor Duane Hoffman, son of Peter and Grace Hoffman, was born January 26,
1919 in Barry County, Michigan. He married Minta Arlene Hoffman November 26,
1937. He registered for the draft October 23, 1940 and enlisted in the Army
December 23, 1943. He joined Company C, 137th Infantry Regiment as a
Rifleman from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 21, 1944 when the unit was
in the vicinity of Rampan, about 4 miles Northwest of St Lo, France and was
awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. He was wounded August
12 by artillery shell fragments in the vicinity of Mortain, France and
returned to duty November 15, 1944. Pvt Victor D Hoffman was reported
missing November 18, 1944 in the vicinity of Harprich, France and was later
confirmed killed in action on that date. He is buried at Wilcox Cemetery,
Nashville, Michigan.
