137th Infantry Regiment, Company L

George Warren Hibbs, son of Elmer Ellsworth and Etta (Dorrance) Hibbs, was born June 1, 1922 in Kingman, Kansas. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard, mobilized to Federal Service December 23, 1940. He served as a Rifleman in Company L, 137th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 7, 1944. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1 and was promoted to Private First Class October 15, 1944. Pfc George W Hibbs was reported missing in action March 11, 1945 in the vicinity of Rheinberg, Germany and was later confirmed killed in action March 25, 1945. He is buried at Hunt Cemetery, Kingman, Kansas.
