137th Infantry Regiment, Company I

Claude Everett Hembree, son of John Bunyan and Florence (Peek) Hembree, was born July 20, 1923 in Murphy, North Carolina. He married Maggie Dial January 5, 1943. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At that time he was living in Blount, Tennessee and working at Rockford Manufacturing in Blount. He was inducted into the Army January 9, 1943, served in Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment, and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 7, 1944. Pfc Claude E Hembree was seriously wounded July 15, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and died of his wounds that same day. He is buried at Clarks Grove Cemetery, Maryville, Tennessee.
