John Henry Hartman, son of Lee Roy and Agnes (Jaeger) Hartman, was born October 18, 1921 in Edison, Ohio. He married Mary Dolores Magrum January 8, 1945. He registered for the draft February 14, 1942 while living in Belleve, Ohio and working at Ohio Cultivator Company. He was inducted into the Army August 4, 1942 at Toledo, Ohio and commission 2nd Lieutenant March 18, 1943. He departed for the ETO on January 13, 1945 and joined Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment February 11, 1945 from the 18th Replacement Battalion when the unit was in Aphoven, Germany. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge March 1, 1945. 2nd Lt John H Hartman was killed in action March 4, 1945 in the vicinity of Nieukirk, Germany. He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
