137th Infantry Regiment, Company I

Ernest Lee Harrison, son of Homer Albert and Ethel Lillian (Saville) Harrison, was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia. His draft registration lists his birthdate as July 23, 1923, however his headstone shows it as July 21, 1923. He registered for the draft on June 30, 1942 when he was 18 years old and working at Berkely Woolen Mill in Martinsburg. He enlisted in the Army May 11, 1943 and joined Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion on September 16, 1944 when the unit was at Jarville, a suburb of Nancy, France. Pvt Ernest L Harrison was killed in action September 23, 1944 in the vicinity of the Champenoux Forest, about 10 miles east of Nancy. He is buried at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
