Charles Foster Hardesty, son of Clelland and Gertrude (Cheatham) Hardesty, was born October 8, 1924 in Nelson County, Kentucky. He registered for the draft December 18, 1942 when he was 18 years old and living in Bloomfield, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Army on May 4, 1943 in Louisville and joined Company A, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion September 18, 1944 when the unit was about 8 miles east of Nancy, France. Pvt Charles F Hardesty was killed in action September 28, 1944 in the vicinity of Gremecey, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
