Private Ronald R Boerst, 35294166, Infantry, United States Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in the vicinity of * * * , France, 12 September 1944.  After part of Company G, 137th Infantry, had crossed the Moselle River in its assault upon enemy strong points on the east bank, two soldiers were fired upon and seriously wounded by enemy artillery and machine guns as they were returning a boat to the west bank for use by the remainder of the company.  Despite enemy observation and intense enemy fire, Private Boerst, a rifleman, assisted by two other soldiers, waded into midstream, secured the boat, and administered first aid to the wounded men.  He and his comrades then carried the wounded men to the friendly shore and evacuated them to the aid station.  Private Boerst's courageous action in in accord with the traditions of the military service.  Entered military service from Ohio.
