William Wesley Whittenburg, son of George Wesley and Rosa Lee (Harris) Whittenburg, was born June 25, 1921 in Economy, Arkansas. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942 and was inducted into the Army on January 23, 1943. He served as a Rifleman in the Second Platoon, Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment. Originally reported missing, he was confirmed killed in action July 24, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France. Pfc William W Whittenburg is buried at Oakland Cemetery, Atkins, Arkansas.
