Claude Bedford Webb, Jr was born June 3, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942, enlisted in the Army October 31 at Marion, Indiana and entered active service November 14, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He was a Rifleman in the First Platoon, Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment. He departed the U.S. on May 12 aboard the SS General A. E. Anderson and arrived in Liverpool, England on May 25, 1944 before moving south to Cornwall and billeting at Porthleven. On July 4, 1944 he sailed across the English Channel from Falmouth, England and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France at 5:18 PM on July 6, 1944. He Was injured in action on August 12, 1944 while fighting in the vicinity of Barenton, France, just southeast of Mortain and returned to duty the next day. He was dropped from duty with the 134th Infantry Regiment due to illness on November 13, 1944. After recuperating from his illness he was assigned to Headquarters Company 1st Battalion, 501st Paratroop Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division as a heavy machine gun crewman. He returned to the U.S. after the war on November 8, 1945.

During his service he participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns. His awards include a Purple Heart, the EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. Claude B Webb, Jr passed away December 6, 2008 and is buried at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
