Donald Eugene Umfleet, son of Arthur and Edna (Campbell) Umfleet, was born September 22, 1925 in Dundas, Illinois. He married Betty Cralle and the couple had a daughter, Sharon. He registered for the draft September 22, 1943. At that time he was working for Richland County Shipping Association, Farm Bureau Office, in Olney, Illiois. He was inducted into the Army December 1943 and joined Company F, 134th Infantry Regiment from the 26th Infantry Division December 16, 1944 and served as a Rifleman. Pvt Donald E Umfleet was killed by small arms fire on December 31, 1944 while attacking to clear the woods south of Lutrebois, Belgium. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg.
