Jerome Gerald Sokol, son of John Peter and Ursula (Borowiak) Sokol, was born September 24, 1921, in Duncan, Nebraska. He joined the Nebraska National Guard in November 1939 and was inducted into Federal service December 23, 1940. He married Dorothy Nelson on October 20, 1943. T/Sgt Jerome G Sokol served as a Platoon Sergeant in the Weapons Platoon, Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action July 23, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France. His son, Frederick Jerome was born August 9, 1944, the same day that his wife was notified of her husband's death. T/Sgt Sokol is buried at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Duncan, Nebraska.
