Leslie Alvin Manning, son of John Robert and Winnie Ellen (Hughes) Manning, was born November 1, 1921 in Daisy, Tennessee. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942. At the time he worked at Kingsboro Silk Mill, in Daisy. He was inducted into the Army August 8, 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Pfc Leslie A Manning served as a heavy machine gunner in Company D, 134th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in action July 17 during the battle for St Lo, France and returned to duty July 23, 1944. He was Killed in Action on September 21, 1944 near Agincourt, a small town in the vicinity of Nancy, France. He is commemorated on a war memorial erected by the people of Agincourt and dedicated to the 35th Infantry Division soldiers who died there.
