Bert Edward Hymer, son of Frank John and Hattie Clara (Henschel) Hymer, was born in Gardner, Kansas on April 3, 1919. His wife's name was Helen. He registered for the draft on October 18, 1940. His draft record lists him as 5' 10" tall, weighing 160 pounds, with blue eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. He was inducted into the Army on February 17, 1941 at Wyandotte, Kansas. S/Sgt Bert E Hymer served in the Third Platoon, Company B, 134th Infantry Regiment. He landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on July 5, 1944. He was Killed in Action July 17, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France and is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
