Mason Harley Herrin, son of Adrian and Lela Estella (Slocum) Herrin, was born May 10, 1922 in Bon Weir, Texas. He and his wife Retha Mae (Bass) Herrin had two daughters, Retha Lavonia and Emma Lee. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he was living in Beaumont, Texas and working at the Penn Shipyard in Beaumont. He was inducted into the Army July 15, 1943 at Houston, Texas and served as a Rifleman in Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach July 5, 1944. He suffered a battle injury August 10 and returned to duty August 13, 1944. Pfc Mason H Herrin was killed in action September 21, 1944 in the vicinity of Nancy, France. He is buried at Trout Creek Cemetery, Trout Creek, Texas.
