134th Infantry Regiment - Company K

Henry Russell Hawthorne, son of Anthony and Emma Elizabeth (Murphy) Hawthorne, was born September 18, 1923 in Leake County, Mississippi. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and was inducted into the Army March 9, 1943 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He joined Company K, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion November 14, 1944 when the unit was at Bellange, France. He was wounded in action November 24, 1944 in the vicinity of Hilsprich, France and returned to duty January 16, 1945. Pfc Henry R Hawthorne was killed by a shell blast January 28, 1945 in the vicinity of Heinerschied, Luxembourg. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg.
