134th Infantry Regiment - Company A

William John Cahill, son of Henry and Jane Isabella (Gilmour) Cahill, was born December 22, 1916 in Whitinsville, Massachusetts. He moved with his family to Illinois sometime between 1920 and 1923. He married Bernice Motileski January 4, 1942 and the couple had 2 children, a daughter Colleen Ann and a son William Jr. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 in Cicero, Illinois. At that time he was living in Cicero and working at Ceco Steel Products. He enlisted in the Army June 29, 1942 at Chicago and attended Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia where he was commission Second Lieutenant March 16, 1943. He joined Company A, 134th Infantry Regiment as a Platoon Leader December 22, 1944 from the 14th Replacement Battalion when the unit was at Ernstviller, France. 2nd Lt William J Cahill was killed by shell fragments January 4, 1945 in the vicinity of Lutremange, Belgium, about 4 - 5 miles south of Bastogne. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg.
