Ralph Vernon Bowman, the son of William and Zelphia Bowman, was born December 15, 1920 at St. Paul, Nebraska. He was inducted into the service on December 23, 1940 at Falls City, Nebraska. He landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France on July 5, 1944. He was promoted from Private First Class to Sergeant on July 22, 1944, serving as a squad leader. He was Killed in Action near St Lo, France on July 28, 1944 when, according to an eye witness, an artillery shell exploded nearby killing him instantly. Sgt Ralph V Bowman is buried at Steele Cemetery, Falls City, Nebraska.
